Harlow Civic Society has decided to devote the next blue plaque we erect to the memory of the Alberni Quartet, Harlow’s own music group, resident in the New Town in its infancy and supported by the Council. The original group became world-famous and launched the careers of its members, two of whom are alive today.
We intend to affix the plaque to the exterior of St John’s Arc if permission is granted, and will hope to have a celebration at the time of its unveiling. We will need to raise funds for the plaque – cost will be about £800-900.
We would welcome comments about this proposal and also any donations towards the costs or ideas for fundraising!
We hope interest in the project will grow and perhaps lead to other related events and celebrations. Watch this space.
